WHO AM I?

with one comment

Who: Zekiah Heath

Born: Wellington 1980

Nationality: Greek Cypriot/ New Zealander

Tertiary education: Certificate in Design, Unitec 2001. Bachelor of Design, Unitec 2006, major: Object Design.

Design ethos: To create unique objects for the home that are functional, beautiful and timeless.

What I do: I design and create a boutique range of ceramic domestic wares from my studio in Auckland.

Technical info: My range of ceramics are created using the slip casting process. I use a really amazing white slip which is made up of local and imported ingredients. I tint the slip in varying colours to create my own signature hues for my collection.

NZ ceramic artists I love: Paul Maseyk, Amanda Shanley, Corrina Hoseason, Dawn McCarthy, Alice Rose, Crown Lynn originals, Owen Bartlett to name a few.

Other interesting things I do: I am co-founder of Auckland art collective MoAD aka Ministry of Art + Design. We create incredible annual pop-up exhibitions in Auckland City which showcase the best in contemporary New Zealand art and design. I also collaborate on a MoAD signature design range with co-founder and best bud Aroha Lewin (who is also an artists in her own right). Together we collect discarded metal ware and resurface them in bright pop colours, giving them a new perspective on life . What once was polished religiously is now re-contextualised to become playful modern day collectables.

I also help the hubby with his amazing t-shirt business, t-shirtopedia. T-shirtopedia is quite simply genius so make sure you follow the link and check it out.
